Deshacer conjugation

Deshacer conjugation - to undo

Table of Contents

Deshacer is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to undo, destroy, take apart”.

Below are all of the conjugations for deshacer in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Deshacer Infinitive

English Infinitive to undo, destroy, take apart
Spanish Infinitive deshacer

Deshacer Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está deshaciendo) and past continuous (estaba deshaciendo). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. undoing).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he deshecho and hubiera deshecho. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have undone).

Gerundio / Gerund  deshaciendo
Participio / Past Participle  deshecho

Deshacer Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Deshacer Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I undo” or “they undo”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo deshago
deshaces
Él / Ella / Usted deshace
Nosotros / as deshacemos
Vosotros / as deshacéis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes deshacen
Vos deshacés

Deshacer Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I undid” or “she undid” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo deshice I undid
deshiciste You undid
Él / Ella / Usted deshizo He / she / you undid
Nosotros / as deshicimos We undid
Vosotros / as deshicisteis You undid
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes deshicieron They / you undid
Vos deshiciste You undid

Deshacer Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was undoing” or “she was undoing” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo deshacía I was undoing
deshacías You were undoing
Él / Ella / Usted deshacía He was / she was / you were undoing
Nosotros / as deshacíamos We were undoing
Vosotros / as deshacíais You were undoing
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes deshacían They / you were undoing
Vos deshacías You were undoing

Deshacer Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have undone” and “she has undone”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he deshecho I have undone
has deshecho You have undone
Él / Ella / Usted ha deshecho He has / she has / you have undone
Nosotros / as hemos deshecho We have undone
Vosotros / as habéis deshecho You have undone
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han deshecho They / you have undone
Vos has deshecho You have undone

Deshacer Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would undo” or “she would undo”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo desharía I would undo
desharías You would undo
Él / Ella / Usted desharía He / she / you would undo
Nosotros / as desharíamos We would undo
Vosotros / as desharíais You would undo
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes desharían They / you would undo
Vos desharías You would undo

Deshacer Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will undo” or “they will undo”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a deshacer” means “They are going to undo”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo desharé I will undo
desharás You will undo
Él / Ella / Usted deshará He / she / you will undo
Nosotros / as desharemos We will undo
