Gestionar conjugation

Table of Contents

Gestionar is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to negotiate, arrange for”.

Below are all of the conjugations for gestionar in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Gestionar Infinitive

English Infinitive to negotiate, arrange for
Spanish Infinitive gestionar

Gestionar Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está gestionando) and past continuous (estaba gestionando). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. negotiated).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he negotiated and hubiera negotiated. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have negotiating).

Gerundio / Gerund  gestionando
Participio / Past Participle  negotiated

Gestionar Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Gestionar Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I negotiate” or “they negotiate”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo gestiono
gestionas
Él / Ella / Usted gestiona
Nosotros / as gestionamos
Vosotros / as gestionáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes gestionan
Vos gestionás

Gestionar Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I negotiate” or “she negotiate” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo gestioné I negotiate
gestionaste You negotiate
Él / Ella / Usted gestionó He / she / you negotiate
Nosotros / as gestionamos We negotiate
Vosotros / as gestionasteis You negotiate
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes gestionaron They / you negotiate
Vos gestionaste You negotiate

Gestionar Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was negotiated” or “she was negotiated” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo gestionaba I was negotiated
gestionabas You were negotiated
Él / Ella / Usted gestionaba He was / she was / you were negotiated
Nosotros / as gestionábamos We were negotiated
Vosotros / as gestionabais You were negotiated
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes gestionaban They / you were negotiated
Vos gestionabas You were negotiated

Gestionar Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have negotiating” and “she has negotiating”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he negotiated I have negotiating
has negotiated You have negotiating
Él / Ella / Usted ha negotiated He has / she has / you have negotiating
Nosotros / as hemos negotiated We have negotiating
Vosotros / as habéis negotiated You have negotiating
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han negotiated They / you have negotiating
Vos has negotiated You have negotiating

Gestionar Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would negotiate” or “she would negotiate”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo gestionaría I would negotiate
gestionarías You would negotiate
Él / Ella / Usted gestionaría He / she / you would negotiate
Nosotros / as gestionaríamos We would negotiate
Vosotros / as gestionaríais You would negotiate
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes gestionarían They / you would negotiate
Vos gestionarías You would negotiate

Gestionar Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will negotiate” or “they will negotiate”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a gestionar” means “They are going to negotiate”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo gestionaré I will negotiate
gestionarás You will negotiate
Él / Ella / Usted gestionará He / she / you will negotiate
Nosotros / as gestionaremos We will negotiate
