Intensificar conjugation

Table of Contents

Intensificar is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to intensify”.

Below are all of the conjugations for intensificar in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Intensificar Infinitive

English Infinitive to intensify
Spanish Infinitive intensificar

Intensificar Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está intensificando) and past continuous (estaba intensificando). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. intensifying).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he intensificado and hubiera intensificado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have intensified).

Gerundio / Gerund  intensificando
Participio / Past Participle  intensificado

Intensificar Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Intensificar Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I intensify” or “they intensify”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo intensifico
intensificas
Él / Ella / Usted intensifica
Nosotros / as intensificamos
Vosotros / as intensificáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes intensifican
Vos intensificás

Intensificar Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I intensified” or “she intensified” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo intensifiqué I intensified
intensificaste You intensified
Él / Ella / Usted intensificó He / she / you intensified
Nosotros / as intensificamos We intensified
Vosotros / as intensificasteis You intensified
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes intensificaron They / you intensified
Vos intensificaste You intensified

Intensificar Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was intensifying” or “she was intensifying” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo intensificaba I was intensifying
intensificabas You were intensifying
Él / Ella / Usted intensificaba He was / she was / you were intensifying
Nosotros / as intensificábamos We were intensifying
Vosotros / as intensificabais You were intensifying
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes intensificaban They / you were intensifying
Vos intensificabas You were intensifying

Intensificar Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have intensified” and “she has intensified”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he intensificado I have intensified
has intensificado You have intensified
Él / Ella / Usted ha intensificado He has / she has / you have intensified
Nosotros / as hemos intensificado We have intensified
Vosotros / as habéis intensificado You have intensified
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han intensificado They / you have intensified
Vos has intensificado You have intensified

Intensificar Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would intensify” or “she would intensify”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo intensificaría I would intensify
intensificarías You would intensify
Él / Ella / Usted intensificaría He / she / you would intensify
Nosotros / as intensificaríamos We would intensify
Vosotros / as intensificaríais You would intensify
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes intensificarían They / you would intensify
Vos intensificarías You would intensify

Intensificar Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will intensify” or “they will intensify”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a intensificar” means “They are going to intensify”.

Yo intensificaré I will intensify
intensificarás You will intensify
Él / Ella / Usted intensificará He / she / you will intensify
