Acudir conjugation

Acudir conjugation - to attend

Table of Contents

Acudir is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to attend, be present, go, come to the rescue”.

Below are all of the conjugations for acudir in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Acudir Infinitive

English Infinitive to attend, be present, go, come to the rescue
Spanish Infinitive acudir

Acudir Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está acudiendo) and past continuous (estaba acudiendo). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. attending).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he acudido and hubiera acudido. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have attended).

Gerundio / Gerund  acudiendo
Participio / Past Participle  acudido

Acudir Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Acudir Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I attend” or “they attend”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo acudo
acudes
Él / Ella / Usted acude
Nosotros / as acudimos
Vosotros / as acudís
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes acuden
Vos acudís

Acudir Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I attended” or “she attended” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo acudí I attended
acudiste You attended
Él / Ella / Usted acudió He / she / you attended
Nosotros / as acudimos We attended
Vosotros / as acudisteis You attended
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes acudieron They / you attended
Vos acudiste You attended

Acudir Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was attending” or “she was attending” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo acudía I was attending
acudías You were attending
Él / Ella / Usted acudía He was / she was / you were attending
Nosotros / as acudíamos We were attending
Vosotros / as acudíais You were attending
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes acudían They / you were attending
Vos acudías You were attending

Acudir Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have attended” and “she has attended”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he acudido I have attended
has acudido You have attended
Él / Ella / Usted ha acudido He has / she has / you have attended
Nosotros / as hemos acudido We have attended
Vosotros / as habéis acudido You have attended
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han acudido They / you have attended
Vos has acudido You have attended

Acudir Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would attend” or “she would attend”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo acudiría I would attend
acudirías You would attend
Él / Ella / Usted acudiría He / she / you would attend
Nosotros / as acudiríamos We would attend
Vosotros / as acudiríais You would attend

Acudir Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will attend” or “they will attend”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a acudir” means “They are going to attend”.
