When conjugating some verbs in Spanish, the ‘stem’ changes for certain tenses.
‘E to ie stem-changing verbs’ see the ‘e’ in the middle of the infinitive/stem change to an ‘ie’ for some conjugations in the present tense, e.g. mentir.
The stem is the part before the -ar, -ie or -er ending – in this case, ‘ment’.
Yo – miento
Tú – mientes
El/Ella/Usted – miente
Ellos/Ellos/Usteded – mienten
The conjugation stays regular for the remaining forms:
Nosotros – mentimos
Vosotros – mentís
