Ingerir conjugation

Table of Contents

Ingerir is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to ingest, take in, consume”.

Below are all of the conjugations for ingerir in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Ingerir Infinitive

English Infinitive to ingest, take in, consume
Spanish Infinitive ingerir

Ingerir Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está ingiriendo) and past continuous (estaba ingiriendo). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. ingesting).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he ingerido and hubiera ingerido. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have ingested).

Gerundio / Gerund  ingiriendo
Participio / Past Participle  ingerido

Ingerir Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Ingerir Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I ingest” or “they ingest”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo ingiero
ingieres
Él / Ella / Usted ingiere
Nosotros / as ingerimos
Vosotros / as ingerís
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes ingieren
Vos ingerís

Ingerir Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I ingested” or “she ingested” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo ingerí I ingested
ingeriste You ingested
Él / Ella / Usted ingirió He / she / you ingested
Nosotros / as ingerimos We ingested
Vosotros / as ingeristeis You ingested
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes ingirieron They / you ingested
Vos ingeriste You ingested

Ingerir Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was ingesting” or “she was ingesting” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo ingería I was ingesting
ingerías You were ingesting
Él / Ella / Usted ingería He was / she was / you were ingesting
Nosotros / as ingeríamos We were ingesting
Vosotros / as ingeríais You were ingesting
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes ingerían They / you were ingesting
Vos ingerías You were ingesting

Ingerir Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have ingested” and “she has ingested”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he ingerido I have ingested
has ingerido You have ingested
Él / Ella / Usted ha ingerido He has / she has / you have ingested
Nosotros / as hemos ingerido We have ingested
Vosotros / as habéis ingerido You have ingested
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han ingerido They / you have ingested
Vos has ingerido You have ingested

Ingerir Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would ingest” or “she would ingest”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo ingeriría I would ingest
ingerirías You would ingest
Él / Ella / Usted ingeriría He / she / you would ingest
Nosotros / as ingeriríamos We would ingest
Vosotros / as ingeriríais You would ingest
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes ingerirían They / you would ingest
Vos ingerirías You would ingest

Ingerir Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will ingest” or “they will ingest”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a ingerir” means “They are going to ingest”.

Yo ingeriré I will ingest
ingerirás You will ingest
Él / Ella / Usted ingerirá He / she / you will ingest
