Inspeccionar conjugation

Table of Contents

Inspeccionar is a Spanish verb which translates into English as “to inspect, examine”.

Below are all of the conjugations for inspeccionar in Spanish, in all three moods (indicative/indicativo, subjunctive/subjunctivo and imperative/imperativo) and all of the tenses, for each pronoun.

The vosotros pronoun is mainly used in mainland Spain, and is the informal second-person plural – it could be considered the Spanish version of “y’all”. It is rarely found in Latin America, where ustedes is used instead.

The vos form is used instead of tú in some Spanish speaking countries of South America, especially the Southern Cone (e.g. Argentina and Uruguay) and has a different conjugation.

Inspeccionar Infinitive

English Infinitive to inspect, examine
Spanish Infinitive inspeccionar

Inspeccionar Gerund and Past Participle

The gerund (gerundio) is used with the continuous tenses, e.g. present continuous (está inspeccionando) and past continuous (estaba inspeccionando). The easiest way to think of it is the equivalent of english’s -ing form (e.g. inspecting).

The past participle (participio) is used with perfect tense ‘haber’ verbs, e.g. he inspeccionado and hubiera inspeccionado. These are the equivalent of English’s ‘have’ (e.g. have inspected).

Gerundio / Gerund  inspeccionando
Participio / Past Participle  inspeccionado

Inspeccionar Indicative Conjugations

The basic form of speech, el indicativo is used for making statements, talking about facts, events and things that are certain and objective.

Inspeccionar Presente / Present

The present tense is as it sounds – it’s for talking about things that are currently going on, which are habitual, or which generally exist. In English, this would be “I inspect” or “they inspect”.

Pronoun Spanish
Yo inspecciono
inspeccionas
Él / Ella / Usted inspecciona
Nosotros / as inspeccionamos
Vosotros / as inspeccionáis
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes inspeccionan
Vos inspeccionás

Inspeccionar Preterite / Pretérito Indefinido

Your simple past tense, e.g. “I inspected” or “she inspected” in English.

In Spanish, there are two past tenses where just one is used in English; the pretérite infefinido is typically used to refer to a concrete, specific moment in time.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo inspeccioné I inspected
inspeccionaste You inspected
Él / Ella / Usted inspeccionó He / she / you inspected
Nosotros / as inspeccionamos We inspected
Vosotros / as inspeccionasteis You inspected
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes inspeccionaron They / you inspected
Vos inspeccionaste You inspected

Inspeccionar Imperfect / Pretérito Imperfecto

The pretérito imperfecto roughly translates as “I was inspecting” or “she was inspecting” in English, and is typically used to describe things and set a scene, talk about events without a specific timeframe, or talk about habitual events or states in the past.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo inspeccionaba I was inspecting
inspeccionabas You were inspecting
Él / Ella / Usted inspeccionaba He was / she was / you were inspecting
Nosotros / as inspeccionábamos We were inspecting
Vosotros / as inspeccionabais You were inspecting
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes inspeccionaban They / you were inspecting
Vos inspeccionabas You were inspecting

Inspeccionar Perfect / Perfecto

The perfect tense is for talking about things which happened in the past but are still related to the present or continue into the present.

In English, these use the auxiliary verbs ‘have’ and ‘has’ – i.e. “I have inspected” and “she has inspected”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo he inspeccionado I have inspected
has inspeccionado You have inspected
Él / Ella / Usted ha inspeccionado He has / she has / you have inspected
Nosotros / as hemos inspeccionado We have inspected
Vosotros / as habéis inspeccionado You have inspected
Ellos / Ellas / Ustedes han inspeccionado They / you have inspected
Vos has inspeccionado You have inspected

Inspeccionar Conditional / Condicional

The conditional is used in place of the English modal verb “would”, i.e. “I would inspect” or “she would inspect”. It can be used to talk about hypothetical situations.

Pronoun Spanish Englush
Yo inspeccionaría I would inspect
inspeccionarías You would inspect
Él / Ella / Usted inspeccionaría He / she / you would inspect
Nosotros / as inspeccionaríamos We would inspect
Vosotros / as inspeccionaríais You would inspect

Inspeccionar Future / Futuro

The future tense, simply put, replaces the English modal verb “will” – i.e. “I will inspect” or “they will inspect”.

It is more commonly used for making a hypothesis about the present. To talk about the future, Spanish speakers frequently use “ir + a + infinivo”, e.g. “van a inspeccionar” means “They are going to inspect”.

Pronoun Spanish English
Yo inspeccionaré I will inspect
inspeccionarás You will inspect
Él / Ella / Usted inspeccionará He / she / you will inspect
